A Lecture and Lunch with Xanthe Clay at Thyme At Southrop Manor Estate

Xanthe Clay, The Telegraph recipe writer and food journalist, is one of Britain’s foremost food writers and cookbook authors, and The Foodie Bugle and Thyme At Southrop Manor are organising a lecture and lunch on 28th October to celebrate her new book “The Contented Cook” published by Kyle Cathie.

Her philosophy is that when you buy the very best seasonal ingredients, a simple approach to cooking is all you need, and no fancy trickery is required nor sweating over a hot stove. In “The Contented Cook”, Xanthe pares back all the effort and the fuss to show you how simplicity is key; both saving you time and allowing the quality of your ingredients to shine through. The simple philosophy embraces every seasonal glut and windfall of the year and rises to every occasion. A one-pot dish of Pork, Flageolets and Star Anise is perfect family food for a weekday evening, and Duck Breasts with Sweet Potato and Parsnip Crisps takes all the stress out of entertaining for a relaxed kitchen supper with friends. With recipes arranged according to seasonal ingredients, and with sections on Spring Baking, A Summer Buffet Party, An Autumn Mezze and Winter Canapés this book capitalises on nature’s bounty to provide simple and delicious solutions at every turn.

The day starts at 10am with teas and coffees and biscuits prepared by Chefs Daryll and Marj, served in the Tithe Barn. We will then move upstairs to the granary lecture room, so that Xanthe can tell us all about the book as well as answering questions about her life, travel and work. After a seasonal lunch, drawing inspiration from “The Contented Cook” and using ingredients from the Thyme kitchen gardens, herb gardens and farm, we can all enjoy a guided walk around the Southrop Manor Estate with Head Gardener Joff Elphick.

If you would like to book a ticket for this event, priced at £45 per person, please book here
