Eat Bristol at Glastonbury, 22-26 June 2011

A group of Bristol and the West Country’s finest food producers are collaborating at this years’ Glastonbury Festival, under the banner of “Eat Bristol”, from 22nd to the 26th of June at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset.

Eat Bristol is the first project of its kind, and will see some of Bristol’s most loved food businesses teaming up to offer over 177, 000 festival goers a taste of the best of local, artisan, slow take away food.

Trethowan’s Dairy, cheesemaker and monger of handmade, unpasteurised British artisanal cheese, and usually found in St Nicholas market, is teaming up with Somerset cheesemaker Jamie Montgomery to serve their deliciously moreish West Country Raclette, the traditional alpine dish of grilled cheese scraped over new potatoes, spicy gherkins and pickled onions with lashings of salt and pepper

Kate’s Kitchen. One of Bristol’s best loved caterers and famed for championing local, seasonal and sustainable produce will be offering a selection of delicious breakfasts, soups, and tagines.

Lahloo High Tea, a collaboration between Kate Gover, founder of artisan tea producer Lahloo Tea and Kirstie Urquhart, offers a slice of the high life. Delicious tea, iced teas and tea smoothies served with colourful macaroons, cakes and giant all-time favourite biscuits.

Nathan Lee of Hyde & Co and operations director of the famous Clifton Lido, Glassboat, and Spyglass will be serving up 100% local beef burgers and seasonal salads.

All of the ingredients used in the food are from within 35 miles of the site – apart from the tea which is blended in Bristol and is fairly traded artisan tea sourced directly from family-owned tea gardens in India, Japan, China as well as the Hampshire countryside. Wherever possible the ingredients and products come from Bristol or the surrounding countryside.

Kate Learner of Kate’s Kitchen says, “It’s such a great opportunity to work at a festival with other foodies. It is wonderful to work with people who share the same passion and enthusiasm for locally produced, high quality and of course delicious food’

Eat Bristol traders are using each other’s ingredients wherever they can and all are using Hobbs House bread. Tom Herbert is working with Eat Bristol to make sure we get exactly the right loaf, roll or bap for each offering.

Eat Bristol aims to be as sustainable as possible by sharing costs of infrastructure, disposables and so on. We will be cutting down on the number of deliveries needed too. We also aim to save each of the traders money at each stage of the planning process. We do all the shopping around and negotiating for the best prices so they can concentrate on getting their offering right.

Todd Trethowan of Trethowan’s Dairy says, “It’s great to go into these things together. It’s a fantastic opportunity to save on resources, also to use each other’s products and to give each other moral support.”
