If you do not have a vacuum sealer, a ziplock freezer bag can work, but you must remove excess air manually. Place the ziplock bag into another freezer bag and seal it properly to prevent freezer burn. Alternatively, you can wrap the ziplock freezer bag in aluminum foil tightly. The objective is to avoid exposure to air and moisture.
How To Freeze Jambalaya Without The Rice And Shrimp?
The ideal freezing method is to prepare the jambalaya without the rice and the shrimp. Then, you can freeze the dish and add the ingredients subsequently.
- Cool the jambalaya to room temperature and separate it into individual consumable portions before freezing.
- Place the individual portions into different ziplock bags. Remove air from the ziplock bags before sealing them airtight. Leaving some space at the top is recommended because the jambalaya can expand during freezing.

How Do You Defrost Jambalaya?
Defrosting the jambalaya before reheating is crucial. The ideal defrosting method is removing it from the freezer and placing it inside the fridge. - On the stovetop – This method is the best if you decide to add shrimp and rice later. Transfer the jambalaya into a frying pan and heat it on the stovetop at medium to low settings.
